Thus the de Havilland Canada name was resurrected.ĭe Havilland is considering a shrink to 50 seats as they see that there are potentially over 800 aging CRJs and Embraer ERJs that will soon need replacing.įor the Dash 8, on 17 February 2021, a pause was put on production due to the lack of orders. The Dash 8 program was sold to Viking Air's parent company Longview Aviation Capital Corporation on 08 November 2018 along with the de Havilland Canada brand. By 2018 Bombardier found sales for the upgraded Q400 were below expectations compared to the cheaper ATR. This design would tackle the 90-seat market. In 2007 Bombardier proposed a stretch to the Q400, the Q400X. There are really only two aircraft in this turboprop space competing with each other, the Dash 8-400 and the ATR 72. The aircraft that carry this feature are denoted by the Q for quiet in their model number, such as the Dash 8 Q400.īombardier is marketing the 400 quite aggressively now and is considering a further stretch, the 400X. This enhances the cabin experience to almost the same level as jet airliners. It works a little like noise-cancelling headphones but on a larger scale. This system works to reduce the noise and vibration that is common in propeller aircraft. Since the first half of 1996, 200, 300, and 400s have been fitted with ANVS (Active Noise and Vibration Suppression). This means that what little speed advantage the regional jets may have over the 400 becomes quite insignificant. ![]() When many regional routes are less than 500 kilometres, a large proportion of the trip is spent taxiing to and from runways. ![]() ![]() Even when compared to regional jets, the 400 is an attractive option with better seat/mile economy. At over 7 metres longer than the 300 with a significantly higher cruise speed, the 400 is a very attractive option for regional carriers. The 400 was the model that Bombardier said they would develop further in the future.
